  • Staff security at work

Protecting staff is now part of the risk assessments carried out by health and safety within a work place. A place of work should be as safe as possible and making sure that not only the premises but also the members of staff are protected is vital.

Most businesses have CCTV installed and some even have onsite security guards patrolling the premises or covering the entrances to ensure that there are no unwanted guests.

Another way you can protect your staff is to install panic alarms. Panic alarms can be linked to the police station or another security office and can be set to sound a silent alarm. Meaning that the perpetrator has no idea that anyone has been alerted until it is too late. Many banks have these sorts of systems, where the button can be pressed under the desk. Sometimes these buttons can also be linked to security shutters that will automatically drop when the buzzer is pressed.

  • A soldiers military equipment

As soldier, you get issued with equipment to assist you when you are out on patrol. When you first join the army you are given a MTP (Multi terrain pattern) clothing, respirator, and military approved boots, rocket pouches, webbing, helmet and Burgan along with a few other necessary items. These items will stay with you throughout your time in the army and will be issued as and when needed.

As a soldier it is your responsibility to maintain all of the items given to you and report of any defects.

If you misplace an item that has been given to you then it will be your responsibility to cover the cost of replacing it and it is often frowned upon. Also you need to ensure that your uniform is looked after and that it is correctly cleaned and ironed when wearing it.

Weapons are only distributed as and when needed and are secured in the armory whilst not in use unless out on operations.

  • Staying in the EU – securing our future

Soon Britain will have to decide if it wasn’t to stay in the European Union. There are pros and cons for staying and leaving the EU but it is up to the public to decide.

With the recent terror attacks hitting many countries within the EU a big question people are asking is are we safer in it or without it.

The EU countries tend to try and stick together on issues such as terrorist attacks and therefore it wold suggest that we are stronger in numbers than on our own.

Leaving the EU would also have a strong impact on our financial situation, there will be money to be saved on membership of being an EU member but we would then not have to stick to strict EU trading laws, which could go either way. We import a lot of our produce, so possibly could see a significant rise in prices but could also chose to sell our goods at our own prices too.

This should also be done for windows on the first/ second floor etc as they can often be accessed with ladders quite easily. Often if you have not locked your windows and you are broken in to an insurance company my not pay out.

Doors – as with windows, these should be locked and secured. Some locks are very easy to break so it is recommended that you upgrade to a security lock that has been police approved.

Valuables – leave all valuables out of site. Hiding away laptops, phones and other expensive equipment can be enough to deter a breaking and even leaving your blinds or curtains shut will stop them from seeing in to the property and viewing items that will be easy to seize.

During attempted thefts or acts of vandalism, one of the most effective strategies at the disposal of criminals is to disconnect a building from the supply of electricity. If the building they’re robbing doesn’t have a backup supply, this means that surveillance systems will go down, alarm systems, some locking mechanisms and a lot of other systems could also go offline. To avoid this potentiality for abuse, the only real solution is to have a back up generator or battery in the building to overcome this gap in protection.
